These deceptive messages often appear to be from legitimate sources, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/\">Social Security Administration (SSA)<\/a>, and can trick you into revealing personal information or clicking on malicious links.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:36px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">But don&#8217;t worry, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exchangedefender.com\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"www.exchangedefender.com\">ExchangeDefender<\/a> is here to help! Here&#8217;s what you need to do if you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from the SSA:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Stop. Don&#8217;t Respond.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"> Resist the urge to reply or click on any links within the email. Phishing emails often contain malware disguised as links or attachments. Clicking on them could infect your device with viruses or spyware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Report It.<\/strong> There are two ways to report a phishing Social Security email:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The SSA OIG Fraud Hotline:<\/strong> Call 1-800-269-0271 to report the scam directly to the SSA&#8217;s Office of the Inspector General.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The SSA OIG Online Reporting Form:<\/strong> Submit a detailed report online at <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/oig.ssa.gov\/report\/\">https:\/\/oig.ssa.gov\/report\/<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Report It (Again!) <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Most email providers offer tools to report spam and phishing emails. Forward the suspicious email to your provider&#8217;s designated reporting address. Be Vigilant.
