Realtime e-mail business continuity
Not all Internet mail security suites are the same.
ExchangeDefender specializes in offering realtime failover and business continuity in addition to message hygiene such as SPAM and
virus filtering and policy management. ExchangeDefender LiveArchive is the key component of the business continuity that is
included with the product at no additional charge and features:
- Access to the past 7 days of clean inbound email
- Preconfigured profile with user's name and all email (SMTP) addresses
- Continuous delivery of email even while the target mail server is down
- Realtime delivery of all inbound and outbound mail
ExchangeDefender LiveArchive allows you to correspond with your customers securely from any web browser even if your Internet connection is down, your mail server is down or you have a corrupted mail profile. Just take your laptop or mobile phone to Starbucks or connect a wireless Internet card, and your mail will be waiting for you at https://livearchive.exchangedefender.com
How does it work?
ExchangeDefender accepts Internet e-mail on your behalf and scans it for known threats such as SPAM, malware, viruses, trojans and so on. After the processing is complete and all the policies are satisfied, ExchangeDefender opens a connection to your server to deliver a message or, if the connection fails, it puts the message in a queue and keeps on trying until the connection is established and message delivered.
With LiveArchive enabled, ExchangeDefender makes a copy of the valid email and delivers it to a secure server in our data center. This secure server stores the message in your account and keeps it for a period of one year (365 days), allowing you to access your mail if you are for some reason unable to access your own mail server or that mail server is temporarily unable to connect to the Internet.
Message delivery happens in realtime even if your own mail server is offline. This allows you to collaborate directly from the archive server and read and respond to messages with 0 downtime and the knowledge that the mail will eventually be delivered to your server. All you need is a secure web browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What does ExchangeDefender LiveArchive cost?
- ExchangeDefender LiveArchive is included free of charge with your ExchangeDefender subscription.
- Will the mail still arrive to me?
- Absolutely, ExchangeDefender does not "redirect" messages, it creates a copy. Because identical copies of the message are stored on LiveArchive and your server without modification, you can meet the regulatory compliance requirements.
- Will the mail still stream even if my Internet connection is down?
- Absolutely, ExchangeDefender LiveArchive receives email in realtime regardless of the server availability. You can be down for days and nobody would know.
- How is this different from ETRN/mailbagging/mail queueing?
- ETRN and mailbagging (mail queueing) mechanisms store undeliverable messages in a temporary queue and retry delivery once your mail server comes up. ExchangeDefender provides this service by default and will queue your messages for delivery for five (5) days with attempts to deliver every 15 minutes during the first hour of outage and every hour after that.
- I don't like the webmail interface, can I have Microsoft Outlook Web Access?
- Absolutely, ExchangeDefender LiveArchive has a flexible forwarding mechanism that can deliver your messages to one of our Linux or Microsoft Windows / Microsoft Exchange 2007 servers. However, additional charges apply for the licensing of those systems.
- Do I need to maintain or manage the queue?
- There is no maintenance or management involved, you just have to enable LiveArchive and you're set.
- How is this different from ExchangeDefender Compliance Archiving and other Archiving solutions out there?
- ExchangeDefender LiveArchive is meant for business continuity - allowing you to stay in business when your mail server goes down or Internet connection is disabled. Because of the frequency and scope of problems with mail servers that are frequently overloaded, we decided to create the LiveArchive product which allows you to continue communicating with your customers even when the infrastructure cannot support it.
ExchangeDefender Compliance Archiving and other Archiving systems are designed for government and regulatory compliance purposes. Often, depending on the regulation, there is no way to respond to, delete or tamper with the message at all. It is there for accountability purposes. LiveArchive by comparison is a full blown standalone mail server for your organization that preserves your corporate identity.
