What do I login with at admin.exchangedefender.com

Filed under: Admin, ExchangeDefender — Travis @ 1:46 pm

admin.exchangedefender.com accepts three types of logins (Even though it says “email address”): Service provider login (SP Username), domain admin login (Domain name), and individual user login (Email address).

In the hierarchy of security, your top level (master) account is your Service Provider account, which can login to a domain as the domain admin account, or even login to a user account.

Service Provider Account

->Domain Administrator

     ->User Quarantine

Using the service provider credentials, an individual can create, modify, and delete any domain that is created under the service providers account..you will never give the SP credentials to a customer.

Using the domain admin credentials, an individual can manage users and settings for the domain that they’ve logged into. You can optionally give these credentials to a customer so they can manage their own site, but do remember that the domain admin account can log into any users quarantine.

Anytime an email address is entered at admin.exchangedefender.com it will always login to the users quarantine account.

Every time a new domain is created in ExchangeDefender, it gets added through a “Service Provider” account and associated to that SP account. During the addition of the domain, you will be asked to create an admin password for the domain (On step 4 of the client wizard); this password gets set as the domain admin password.

Example: Service provider TechSushi adds the domain techsushicomputers.com to ExchangeDefender and sets the admin password as SushiAdmin987 – Now a user can optionally login as either user@techsushicomputers.com to manage their personal quarantine or they can type in techsushicomputers.com with the password SushiAdmin987 and login to the Domain Admin account.

How can I retrieve emails that I have deleted on my BlackBerry?

Filed under: BES — admin @ 4:14 pm

“I accidentally deleted the messages in my inbox on my BlackBerry, is it possible to re-sync it to the inbox on my computer so I can get the emails back on my phone?”

Unfortunately this is not possible. The simplest way to have the emails back on your BlackBerry would be to have it resent to your inbox. Depending on when it was deleted, and the type of BlackBerry, you may be able to retrieve it through the phone. However, as far as re-synchronizing, it cannot be done.

Can I create a trial account?

Filed under: Hosted Exchange — admin @ 1:19 pm

“Can I create a few accounts that will allow me to a) train my sales staff on what is exchange b) allow prospects to “play with it” to get a feel for what they are buying into before committing.”

We are proud to offer our own software free of charge for our partners: You can have ExchangeDefender and Web Hosting free of charge for as long as you resell our software and services. Other services, such as Exchange and SharePoint, require third party software licensing so if you do not wish to be billed for them please say that you are just requesting a “Trial” under notes and cancel the services before the 1st of the month. Please note: If you do not cancel an account that you setup for trial purposes you will be billed for it until the service is cancelled. There are no refunds, even if the service was not used.

So basically, can it be done? Yes. Depending on the circumstance it may be easier to just show them collateral or a current mailbox instead of creating a trial one with the possibility of forgetting that it is in the trial phase and paying for its usage when it was meant to be temporary. However, if you feel that the best way to create a clear and astute understanding, you can create a temporary “trial” service.

How do I get correct names in my GAL for cached mode OAB

Filed under: Hosted Exchange — admin @ 6:00 pm

If you’ve migrated to hosted Exchange from an on-premise deployment, or if you have a complex GAL setup, you may at some point get GAL corruption (in which case you may see names that are no longer a part of your organization). It is possible to configure how Outlook client downloads and processes Offline Address Books (OAB) that contain your Global Address List (GAL)

Problem

  • Users see “foreign” contacts in their GAL
  • Users are constantly prompted for a password even after authenticating
  • Users are not seeing the correct names in their GAL

Solution

Please follow the instructions from Microsoft KB Article 823580. Set the registry value to 0.

Also search for any .oab files on the client PC and remove them (They should be under \documents and settings\local settings\application data\microsoft\address list or \users\appdata\local (or roaming)\micosoft\address list)

OWA 5 minute timeout

Filed under: Hosted Exchange — Travis @ 4:25 pm

When clients login to OWA and leave the Security option set to Public Computer then Exchange will only keep the OWA session active up to 5 minutes after the inactivity timer starts. To resolve the issue, instruct users to select Private Computer at the login screen.

What data is synchronized with Blackberry Enterprise Server?

Filed under: BES — Travis @ 1:37 pm

By default BES will synchronize Calendars, Emails, Contacts, Tasks and the MemoPad (Notes).

On the initial sync, the BES server will only push the last 5 days of email to the device, and then will push any new emails as they arrive.

Synchronization options are all controlled under “Options, Wireless Synchronization” on the BB device.

Outbound Messages are rejected as “Relaying denied. IP name lookup fail”

Filed under: ExchangeDefender — Travis @ 4:49 pm

When a new customer is added to ExchangeDefender, or the WAN IP used for outbound mail is changed it takes up to one hour to propagate across the Outbound grid. When the ExchangeDefender Outbound grid receives mail from an IP that is not in the cached “allowed senders IP” list, the message will be bounced as “Relaying denied. IP name lookup fail”

user@domain.com on 5/12/2010 11:00 Am
You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For assistance contact your system administrator.
… relaying denied. IP name lookup failed [XX.XX.XX.XX]

Partners should wait at least one hour after any changes to the ExchangeDefender Outbound Configuration before attempting to send outbound emails.
